Disclosure: how we make money

Last updated 2026-10-19. This page explains, in plain terms, how Expat Money Map may earn money and how we keep that separate from the data.

The short version

  • Right now the site has no affiliate links and no sponsors, so the site currently earns no money.
  • We plan to earn money from affiliate links, and in future from labelled sponsors and featured adviser listings.
  • Money never changes an entry's status. Statuses come only from published sources.
  • Every paid placement is labelled right where it appears.
  • Not financial, tax or legal advice.

Affiliate links

Some links may be affiliate links, for example to expat tax preparation services or money-transfer providers. If you click one and sign up or buy something, we may earn a commission from that company. We only add an affiliate link after the company has approved us for its programme.

Wherever an affiliate link appears, it sits in a box labelled Affiliate link with a short note saying we may earn a commission, next to the link itself. You don't need to read this page to know a link is paid. Affiliate links also carry rel="sponsored" so search engines can tell them apart.

Sponsors and featured adviser listings (planned)

In future we may accept sponsors, for example on country pages or in the newsletter, and offer featured listings to cross-border advisers, such as expat tax CPAs or financial planners. Any of these will be labelled Sponsor or Featured, and kept visually separate from the database. A featured listing means the adviser paid to be shown. It is not a recommendation, and we don't vet or supervise advisers' work, so do your own checks before hiring anyone.

What money can't buy

  • Statuses come only from sources. "Opens new accounts", "refuses" and every other status reflect what a cited source says, such as the institution's own terms, help pages, reputable reporting, or clearly labelled community reports. See our methodology.
  • Commissions and sponsorships never change an entry's status, note, confidence level or position in the database. An institution with an affiliate deal is listed exactly as it would be without one, including when the news is bad.
  • Institutions can't pay to be listed, removed, or to change an entry. Corrections need a source. Anyone can submit a datapoint.
  • We don't sell your data. Contact emails sent with datapoints are never published.

Not advice

Expat Money Map is an independent information resource. Nothing here is financial, tax, investment or legal advice, or a recommendation of any product, institution or adviser, paid or not. Policies change and are applied case by case. Confirm with the institution and a qualified adviser before you act.
